What is Project Twin Streams?

Project Twin Streams (PTS) is an exciting programme for west Auckland communities to restore and reclaim the area's streams as the heart of their neighbourhoods. The project aims to improve the wellbeing of the west Auckland, through restoring natural systems for managing stormwater by replanting streambanks.

Project Twin Streams Glen Eden

Auckland Council has contracted EcoMatters, in partnership with Glen Eden Primary School, to deliver PTS in the Glen Eden area. The Glen Eden contract covers the Waikumete sub-catchment and includes the Whakarina, Bishop, and Waikumete Streams. PTS Glen Eden stretches from the headwaters in Titirangi, down through Kaurilands, Konini, Glen Eden, and Parr's Park.

Want to get involved?

  • Attend a workshop: where you can learn easy methods of weed management, planting, and how to care for the stream in your backyard.
  • Come to a community planting day: plants and spades provided. Just bring your energy and some good boots.

Project Twin Streams Self Guided Walk

Take a walk through a section of the Waikumete Stream that we have been restoring with the local community – beginning at the Glen Eden cycleway (end of Savoy Road), going through Ceramco Park and Atkinson Walkway, ending at Atkinson Road. For the map see the attachment below.

Adopt a Stream

Get together with friends and neighbours to adopt an area of the stream to care for. We will help you to clean-up and restore the area. You can then watch with pride as your 'patch' becomes a wonderland for plants, birds and an amazing array of stream life.

Ask your child about Project Twin Streams

Schools in our area are getting involved and kids are discovering how to care for their local environment through learning about streams. You can support your child and local school by attending a school planting day or event.
