Water saving for businesses

EcoMatters has been working with businesses in Waitakere City to help them save water. Reductions of 20 to 25% of overall use have been identified in some cases. These businesses have included large shopping malls and gyms. They see the water savings identified in the audits as a straightforward business investment.
 
EcoMatters has provided each business with more then one water-saving option to consider. This included an analysis of the costs for each option, outlining both payback periods and benefits to the company. This service has provided businesses with the information they need to take water-saving action.
 
To accurately establish a break down of water costs, extensive sub-metering has been carried out at some businesses. This has included collecting time-of-use data.

A simple water-saving solution

A rain tank is often the single best investment a business can make in its water infrastructure. Using day-by-day rainfall data to model the water available EcoMatters has showed:

  • How much water the business could save daily using different sized tanks
  • When the tank would be overflowing
  • When the tank would be empty, necessitating back-up from the city supply

This modeling has provided businesses with much more accurate forecasts on the investments we recommend than those available from the averaged figures often quoted.
