DESCRIPTION:Join Nat Rose Te Hei (Te Whānau ā Apanui\, Ngāti Porou\, Tainui\, Tūwharetoa) in this fun beginners weaving workshop at the start of the school holidays. \nParticipants will learn to weave a kono (a small container). These are ideal for holding harvested kai and other small items. \nLearn appropriate tikanga when harvesting and weaving harakeke. \nOn the day we’ll be doing: \nKarakia timatanga   (Opening prayer) \nMihimihi   (Welcoming and acknowledgements) \nWhakawhanaungatanga   (Introductions) \nKaupapa ō te rā  (Weaving a kono) \nNgā tikanga/ Ūara  (Harvesting flax) \nMahi rāranga  (Lets get weaving) \nWhakaaro  (Reflections\, learnings) \nKarakia Whakamutunga  (Closing karakia) \nNOTES: \n\nPlease bring scissors.\nFor ages 10+ to adult\n\n \nSupported by the Creative Communities Scheme. \nThis event is part of EcoFest 2026 — a month-long\, community-powered festival celebrating nature\, sustainable living and everyday climate action across Tāmaki Makaurau.
