About this Event

Come along for a community planting along the Waitahurangi Awa at Olympic Park, New Lynn. We’re celebrating Matariki with an emphasis on the whetū Waitī, the star representing the freshwater environment and all our plants and animals that live in and around this Waitahurangi streamside area.

The native plants we put into the ground will add stability to the stream banks, slow water flow during heavy rain, reducing flash flood impact and helping manage stormwater. These plants also stabilize stream banks and provide habitat for native wildlife.

All ages welcome; however, children must be supported by an adult. Participants are asked to wear sturdy closed toe footwear, ideally gumboots.

Meet at EcoMatters Environment Trust, 1 Olympic Place, New Lynn.

Hosted by EcoMatters Environment Trust. For further info, contact [email protected]

Ngā mihi to Whau Local Board, Auckland Council Parks, and Auckland Council Healthy Waters for supporting the restoration of this public land.
