She was born and raised in Ōtaki\, Aotearoa\, and was nurtured by the Tararua Ranges and the waters of the Ōtaki and Waitohu rivers. Since moving to Tāmaki Makaurau in 2010\, she has considered Te Wao Nui a Tirawa\, the Waitākere Ranges\, her greatest teacher. This connection is woven through her whakapapa to the Tainui waka.
