Saving Energy

If you would like to cut down on your power bills while keeping your home warm and dry, we’d like to help. Whether you rent or own your own home, our Sustainability Advisors can help with practical advice and tips on how to lower your energy use.

EnergyMate – a free energy advice service for West Auckland residents who are customers of most power companies

Energy Wellbeing – a free energy advice service for Meridian or Powershop customers who live in Tāmaki Makaurau

West Aucklanders, if you are struggling to pay your power bill or heat your home, you may be eligible for a free in-home energy coaching service.

As an EnergyMate partner, we’ll check everything electricity-related to make sure you aren’t losing or using energy needlessly. This includes checking you are on the best electricity plan with your current provider, home heating, seeing how you use your appliances, measuring your hot water and shower flow rates, and giving you LED light bulbs to immediately lower your energy use.

To be eligible for an EnergyMate visit, you must:

  • Live in West Auckland
  • Have lived in your current home for at least eight weeks
  • Be a New Zealand citizen or resident
  • Be a CSC/SuperGold card holder (or be eligible for either of these)

If you meet the above criteria, and are interested in an EnergyMate in-home visit, get in touch, and you will hear back from us soon.

EnergyMate is delivered in West Auckland by EcoMatters, in partnership with the Electricity Retailers’ Association.

If you are struggling to pay your power bills and finding it hard to keep your home warm and dry, our Sustainability Advisors may be able to come to your home to offer energy saving advice, personalised for you and your whānau.

If eligible, we can refer you to other organisations who can help with additional energy savings in your home, such as installing curtains, heat pumps or extraction systems. We also provide LED light bulbs, draught door snakes, hot water cylinder wraps and other interventions to immediately lower your energy use.

To be eligible for a Energy Wellbeing visit, you must:

  • Be a current Meridian or Powershop customer (and have been for a minimum of six months)
  • Live in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland)
  • Be struggling to pay your power bill
  • Be struggling to keep your home warm with the heating you already have

If you meet the above criteria (other conditions may also apply), and are interested in an in-home Energy Wellbeing visit, get in touch and you will hear back from us soon.

We have a limited number of free water and energy saving visits available for anyone interested in making water and energy efficiency changes in their household, which will help to reduce your carbon footprint and save you money!

These in-home visits will include an assessment of your home, your appliances and your whānau’s habits using water and/or energy. We might install water and energy saving devices that will help you reduce your usage, and we will look at your current power provider/plan to make sure it’s the best option.

feedback on our visits

The heaters are incredible and I am so, so grateful for the other items and all your great advice to keep our house warm and cosy (and dry). Thank you guys so much, you’ve made a huge difference!

My curtains were installed today and they look great! 😀 Thank you so much! 😊🥰 I have also put some pieces of bubble wrap on my bedroom window as you suggested, and they made about 2 degrees difference!

Since I installed the hot water cylinder wrap I already noticed my power bills have dropped circa $1 per day which is amazing!
