Love Food Hate Waste

The average Kiwi family throws away three shopping trolleys of edible food each year. Find out how you can reduce the financial and environmental costs of food waste.

We partner with Auckland Council, one of many councils around Aotearoa who support Love Food Hate Waste NZ, to deliver free workshops that help you make the most of the kai you have.

Workshops

EcoMatters is a proud facilitator of Love Food Hate Waste workshops across Tāmaki Makaurau, delivered through the Compost Collective programme.
This means that when you book, you’ll be taken to the Compost Collective website.

Grow Your Own Greens

Looking to grow your own veggies but not sure how to start? No problem. At this true garden-to-table workshop you’ll roll your sleeves up and learn how to grow vibrant green veggies in your garden or chosen container. You’ll even learn how to make green smoothies, and other health giving snacks and meals. Get along to a workshop and learn these vital skills for the health of your whānau and the environment.

Love your Leftovers

Pledge to get creative with leftovers and impact your finances and the whenua (land) positively. Gain confidence in creating nutritious and tasty meals from what you’d ordinarily waste because you just don’t know what to do with it. You’ll also learn tips on storing food so that it stays fresh longer.

Pickling & Preserving

Make the most of seasonal produce and stock your pantry with homemade preserves. Bring along fruit or veggies you have on hand, plus clean jars with lids, and go home with jars of kai you’ve prepared on the day, along with the skills to keep pickling and preserving year-round.
